CJRB Bolt J1960 Guide: Recoil Lock V2 in Seven Builds

CJRB Bolt J1960 Guide: Recoil Lock V2 in Seven Builds

The CJRB Bolt J1960 is the cheapest CJRB-badged knife on this site whose own spec table names Recoil Lock V2, and it is also the lightest knife that carries that lock. It is a 3.25-inch drop point folder built on a 76-gram frame, opened with a thumb stud, closed with a bar that crosses the blade tang on a ceramic ball-bearing pivot. Seven listings carry it, and all seven are in stock as of this writing, from a 49.99 USD textured G10 model to a 199.99 USD titanium build with a CPM S90V blade.

CJRB Bolt J1960 Guide: Recoil Lock V2 in Seven Builds

A ceramic ball-bearing pivot and the Recoil Lock V2 bar are what separate the Bolt from CJRB's liner-lock range.

This guide walks the whole line: the base specification, every build with its live price and weight, where the Bolt sits on the Recoil Lock V2 ladder next to the Simoon and the Doubletap, and the limited holiday run that shares the same frame.

What the CJRB Bolt J1960 Is

The Bolt is a compact, general-purpose EDC folder. Its blade is a flat-ground drop point, 3.25 inches long and 0.11 inches thick - thin enough to slice, thick enough that the tip does not feel fragile. It closes to 4.21 inches, which puts the whole package at 7.46 inches open and inside the range most people are comfortable carrying in a front pocket all day.

What separates the Bolt from the rest of the budget CJRB range is the lock and the steel ladder. On the four entry builds you get AR-RPM9, CJRB's spray-formed powder steel, hardened to HRC 59-61. Step up to the Micarta or the titanium build and the same frame runs CPM S90V at HRC 60-62 - the hardest blade steel in the Bolt line and the reason the titanium version lists at four times the G10 price.

Handles run 73.5 g to 100 g depending on material. The Micarta build is the lightest knife of the seven, and the titanium build is the heaviest - which is worth knowing before you assume titanium means lighter.

Bolt J1960G-GY Titanium CPM S90V 100 g / 3.53 oz 199.99 USD

Every row above is in stock in at least one variant, and each row links through to its product page in the CJRB Bolt collection.

Read the table as a decision between four things. The four AR-RPM9 G10 builds are the same knife in four colours at the same 49.99 USD, so pick on looks. The Micarta build adds S90V and takes 2.5 g off the weight - the best weight-to-steel trade in the line. The titanium build adds 23.5 g over the G10 and titanium hardware for the S90V premium. If you want the most knife per dollar, the G10 builds win. If you want the lightest or the most corrosion-proof, they do not.

What Recoil Lock V2 Does

Recoil Lock V2 belongs to the spring-loaded, tang-engaging bar-lock family - the same broad family the Axis-style crossbar and CJRB's own recoil locks share. The bar is held under spring tension across the tang, so the blade is locked by the bar itself rather than by a liner or frame leaf pressing against the tang, and it can be released with either hand without your fingers crossing the blade path. We cover the mechanism from the inside, with diagrams of how the bar and the tang engage, in our recoil lock and crossbar lock explainer.

For the Bolt specifically, the practical points are these. The action is smooth and the lock is fidget-friendly, which is how CJRB's own listing copy describes V2 - improved strength and reliability with a smoother action. And because the bar is ambidextrous, the Bolt does not have a hand preference built into the lock the way a right-handed liner lock does.

One data note on this site's tagging, because it affects how you shop the lock. The Recoil-lock tag is applied to 21 products, but it is broader than the spec tables: the Crag J1904 listings carry that tag while their own titles read Liner Lock and Flipper. Anything in this article is limited to knives whose spec table names Recoil Lock V2 outright, which is why the Bolt, the Simoon and the Doubletap are the three models below.

Bolt vs Simoon vs Doubletap: The Recoil Lock V2 Ladder

Model Blade Entry steel Weight Entry price
CJRB Bolt J1960 3.25 in (82.5 mm) drop point AR-RPM9, HRC 59-61 76 g 49.99 USD
Artisan Cutlery Simoon 1882P 3.47 in (88 mm) bowie AR-RPM9, HRC 59-61 94 g 49.99 USD
CJRB Doubletap J1970 3.86 in drop point D2 heavier full-size frame 69.99 USD

The Bolt and the Simoon open the door at exactly the same price, which makes the choice between them a shape question rather than a budget one. The Simoon gives you 0.22 inches more blade in a bowie profile and 18 g more weight. The Bolt gives you a smaller, lighter knife with a drop point that is easier to control on fine work. The Doubletap is the same lock scaled up into a genuinely large folder with 0.19-inch stock, and it costs 20 USD more to get in.

The Holiday Exclusive Run

One of the seven listings is not a colourway but a short seasonal series. The Bolt Holiday Exclusive ships in three variants - Decked Halls (J1960M-BBK), Snowfall (J1960M-WH) and All Wrapped Up (J1960M-RE) - all at 49.99 USD on the same 3.25-inch AR-RPM9 frame, with printed G10 handles and a 77 g weight. The listing describes them as a limited-run series produced in limited quantities for a short seasonal window, and states that once sold out the variants will not return.

Mechanically they are a standard Bolt: AR-RPM9 at HRC 59-61, Recoil Lock V2, textured G10 scales and a reversible steel deep-carry clip. The listing copy also claims a rose-gold blade finish on the Snowfall variant; the title of that listing does not name a finish, so treat the finish as unconfirmed if you are ordering by colour match.

Who the Bolt Is For

  • First premium-lock purchase. If you want a bar lock rather than a liner lock and 49.99 USD is the budget, the Bolt is the entry point.
  • Weight-sensitive carry. At 73.5 g the Micarta build is lighter than most 3-inch G10 folders, and even the G10 builds stay under 80 g.
  • Wet or coastal environments. S90V on the upper tiers is the most corrosion-resistant steel in the line; AR-RPM9 is itself a stainless powder steel.
  • Gift buying. The Holiday Exclusive is the only version in the line with a themed handle, and it is the same price as the plain builds.

It is not the knife for a large-handed user who wants a four-finger grip with room to spare, and it is not a heavy-use work knife. The Doubletap exists in the same product family for exactly that, at 0.19-inch stock and a larger frame.

CJRB Bolt J1960 FAQ

What steel does the CJRB Bolt use?

AR-RPM9 at HRC 59-61 on the four G10 builds and the Holiday Exclusive, and CPM S90V at HRC 60-62 on the green Micarta build and the titanium build.

How much does the CJRB Bolt weigh?

73.5 g (2.59 oz) in Micarta, 76 g (2.68 oz) in G10, 77 g (2.72 oz) on the Holiday Exclusive and 100 g (3.53 oz) in titanium.

Is the CJRB Bolt still in stock?

All seven listings have at least one in-stock variant at the time of writing, at 49.99 USD, 90.23 USD and 199.99 USD.

Does the Bolt come in a left-handed version?

There is no separate left-handed SKU. The Holiday Exclusive listing describes a reversible steel deep-carry clip for left- or right-hand carry, and the Recoil Lock V2 bar is released the same way from either side.

What is the difference between the Bolt and the Doubletap?

Blade length and scale. The Bolt is 3.25 inches closed into a 76 g frame at a 49.99 USD entry price; the Doubletap is 3.86 inches with heavier stock and starts at 69.99 USD. Both use Recoil Lock V2 with a ceramic ball-bearing pivot.

Data note: several Bolt listings publish the blade finish row as Stone Wash/Black PVD Coating even where the listing title names only one of the two finishes. The table above follows each listing title rather than that combined row.
